Value-Added Market Development Program
The Value-Added Market Development Program is one of five new programs available to help Alberta’s livestock and meat industry create a profitable and sustainable future.
Program Details
A total of $2 million is available for the 2009/2010 fiscal year. This program is designed to stimulate expansion and diversification of the domestic market for Alberta livestock and meat products by:
- assisting industry associations and Alberta businesses to conduct market assessments and customer research which lead to identification and diversification of markets; and
- complementing funding for the development of value chains and supply chains.
Eligibility requirements
- Existing or prospective Alberta food processors (companies, partnerships) and entities that market meat products to Canadian markets.
- Existing or prospective marketing associations working in partnership with Alberta food processors to promote specific Alberta livestock and meat products.
- Existing and prospective processors that use or intend to use these Alberta livestock products as inputs in their product and produce the product in Alberta for Canadian markets.
Eligible expenses
- Market research and intelligence
- Marketing plans
- Promotional materials including product samples
- Development and enhancement of Alberta livestock product brands
- Packaging development and labeling
- Retail and food service promotions of Alberta products
- Travel expenses and trade shows
- Project management/consulting fees
Assistance will be on a 50:50 cost shared basis with the applicant to a maximum grant of $500,000 of the eligible costs per project. However, increased funding levels may be considered at an increased level of 75:25 cost-shared basis at ALMA’s discretion.
