International Market Development Program
The International Market Development Program is one of five new programs available to help Alberta’s livestock and meat industry create a profitable and sustainable future.
Program Details
A total of $6 million is available for the 2009/2010 fiscal year. This program is designed to stimulate expansion and diversification of export markets for the Alberta livestock and meat sector by:
- accelerating expansion of market shares in exports markets;
- assisting industry associations and Alberta businesses to conduct international market assessments and customer research; and
- complementing funding for the development of value chains and supply chains.
Eligibility requirements
- Existing or prospective Alberta exporters (companies, partnerships) that market Alberta meat and/or livestock products to international markets.
- Industry associations working in partnership with Alberta exporters to promote Alberta livestock products in international markets.
- Existing and prospective Alberta processors that use or intend to use Alberta livestock products as ingredients for product destined for international markets.
Eligible expenses
- International market research and intelligence
- Marketing plans for export market opportunities
- Promotional materials including product samples for international markets
- Development and enhancement of Alberta livestock product brands
- Packaging development and labeling for export destined products
- Retail and food service promotions of Alberta products
- Travel expenses and trade shows
- Project management/consulting fees
Assistance will be on a 50:50 cost shared basis with the applicant to a maximum grant of $1 million of the eligible costs per project. However, increased funding levels may be considered at an increased level of 75:25 cost-shared basis at ALMA’s discretion.
